"I have enjoyed each and every one of the Teleconferences so much that I am now trying to schedule patients around them. I feel that the TCME is extremely valuable and am planning to join as a member this week."
-Danielle Paciera, LDN, RD, Tulane University

From tele-conference participant (The call) "it was great! I appreciated how you modeled these skills for us as you facilitated the group! I also loved hearing the experiences of others and learning about different resources. " Cathy C

"The entire concept of 'curiosity' was new to me with respect to nutrition counseling. It seemed like a very unlikely word to include. I came to understand, however, how it can increase our awareness of our/client's behaviors when taking a more curious stance (I wonder how much food It will take to fill me up/satisfy me?) rather than a more judgmental, negative stance such as "I'm not supposed to eat more than this for lunch, but I seem extra hungry today!". Meet Dr. Zeckhausen Author of,
Full Mouse, Empty Mouse
(mp3, 10.3mb)
Presented by Dr. Dina Zeckhausen, PhD

Recorded March 20, 2008

Full Mouse, Empty Mouse is the first children's book devoted to addressing the emotional, social and familial variables that can contribute to eating problems in kids. This interactive presentation will describe how this unique book can be used by adults who care about kids: from dieticians to therapists, from educators to parents.

Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will learn how:
Certain children are at risk of using over-eating or food restriction in order to cope with uncomfortable feelings while attempting to "protect" their loved ones from these feelings.

2. Full Mouse, Empty Mouse addresses kids' attempts to cope with stress, as well as the typical interpersonal consequences of these behaviors and resulting weight changes. The "anti-dote" to the problem will be demonstrated through the story: the idea that connection to heart and body as well as connecting to loved ones can meet kids' emotional needs.

3. The book can be used in various settings. Therapists and dieticians who work with children or adult clients struggling with eating problems can use the story to uncover underlying issues. The story can be used in a school setting as a complement to existing wellness and obesity prevention initiatives.
Visit www.fmem.net to learn more about the book and author.
