"The entire concept of 'curiosity' was new to me with respect to nutrition counseling. It seemed like a very unlikely word to include. I came to understand, however, how it can increase our awareness of our/client's behaviors when taking a more curious stance (I wonder how much food It will take to fill me up/satisfy me?) rather than a more judgmental, negative stance such as "I'm not supposed to eat more than this for lunch, but I seem extra hungry today!". 4/24/06 - An Exploratory Study of a Meditation-Based Intervention for Binge Eating Disorder (PDF, 97kb)
Read about Dr. Jean Kristeller's, Mindfulness-Based-Eating Awareness Training, MB-EAT Program, which looks at how mindfulness training can  assist with Binge Eating Disorder. Dr. Kristeller is now in the  middle of the second NIH-NCCAM funded trial evaluating an  intervention program that  she developed initially for compulsive  overeating/binge eating disorder.  The research has now expanded to  target weight loss in a broader population of significantly obese  individuals.
