"I have enjoyed each and every one of the Teleconferences so much that I am
now trying to schedule patients around them. I feel that the TCME is
extremely valuable and am planning to join as a member this week." -Danielle Paciera, LDN, RD, Tulane University
From tele-conference participant (The call) "it was great! I appreciated how you modeled these skills for us as you facilitated the group! I also loved hearing the experiences of others and learning about different resources. " Cathy C
"The entire concept of 'curiosity' was new to me with respect to nutrition counseling. It seemed like a very unlikely word to include. I came to understand, however, how it can increase our awareness of our/client's behaviors when taking a more curious stance (I wonder how much food It will take to fill me up/satisfy me?) rather than a more judgmental, negative stance such as "I'm not supposed to eat more than this for lunch, but I seem extra hungry today!". Rebecca L. Gladding, M.D. is a UCLA-trained psychiatrist specializing in anxiety and depression who recently completed a year as an Attending Psychiatrist, Clinical Instructor and Medical Director of the UCLA Adult Inpatient Eating Disorders Program. She has been featured on the Today Show, in A&E’s critically acclaimed series Obsessed and in print for The Los Angeles Times, Cosmo, Forbes, Whole Living, New York Post, The Huffington Post and other media outlets. She writes articles for Psychology Today and has been interviewed by numerous radio programs across the country, including You The Owners Manual Radio, Dr. Radio and many NPR affiliates.
Dr. Gladding graduated from the UCLA Psychiatry Residency Program in 2009, completing her final year in the prestigious position of Program Chief Resident. She received her M.D. degree from the University of California, San Francisco, and became a member of Phi Beta Kappa upon receiving her B.S. in Biological Chemistry from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. She loves to teach and has been honored with several teaching awards.
For the past three years, Dr. Gladding has focused her clinical work on anxiety and how people often misunderstand this vital emotion. As a believer that anxiety is a helpful signal often alerting us that a deeper emotion is trying to reach the surface, Dr. Gladding focuses on teaching people how to recognize anxiety and use it to identify erroneous negative thoughts (i.e., deceptive brain messages) so that they can uncover and express their true emotions and live a life free from these unwanted, unhelpful intruders. She has been studying how emotional states affect physical health and well-being – and vice versa – for years. She is an expert in mindfulness, anxiety, eating disorders and the Four Steps and regularly teaches people how to apply the Four Steps to their lives and relationships.
